Tinned sardines are an acquired taste, but in these fishcakes, they will win everyone over. You'll be surprised at how little else is needed to accompany these badboys, but they're like a complete meal in one fistful! And cheap as chips too! You're welcome 🙂

  • 5 pucks of frozen spinach
  • 2 x 120g tins of sardines in olive oil
  • 125g breadsticks
  • 100g frozen onions
  • 50g frozen garlic
  • 1 egg
  • 1 lemon - zest and juice
  • ---
  • 20g frozen garlic
  • 6 tbsp mayonnaise
  • green veg


  1. Preheat oven 200ºc
  2. Line two baking trays with greaseproof paper
  3. Defrost frozen spinach in microwave for 3 mins
  4. Whizz or bash breadsticks down to imperfect crumbs
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients above the dotted line and mix with hands
  6. Using your hands, lay evenly sized patty shapes of sardine mixture onto baking trays and bake for 15-20 mins - you may need to rotate the trays for even browning
  7. Meanwhile prepare the green veg and combine the second quantity of frozen garlic with the mayonnaise
  8. Once fishcakes are cooked, serve with garlic mayonnaise and green veg
  9. ENJOY!
